In 1888 forty-five of the Gowrie Lutheran Church members petitioned to be released so they could start a church of their own in Harcourt. The reasons for this split were the distance to be traveled, the impassible roads and often the bad weather. These circumstances made regular attendance impossible and they felt their children were not getting proper religious training. The Gowrie Congregation denied them permission to leave. The Harcourt group did not give up and in 1891 they organized the Harcourt Evangelical Lutheran Church. During the first few years the church was served by visiting pastors and laymen until a pastor was hired in 1893. In 1963 the name of Harcourt Lutheran Church was changed to Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church. Since 1891, the people of Faith have been exactly that-People of Faith. Located in Harcourt, Iowa it has stood as a place of worship and praise for its 151 members, and an open door to those who were walking the walk of faith. In 2002 a new fellowship room and handicap accessible ramp were added to the church. The illuminated steeple serves as a beacon to all who pass by. For more than one hundred and ten years, Faith Lutheran Church has been sharing their blessings with the world. The people of Faith look forward to a future of praise and service, preaching the Gospel and sharing the sacraments that are ours as a gift from God.
