The beginnings of our congregation date back to 1886 when members met in the Grant Center schoolhouse. A Sunday school was also organized. Our church is the daughter congregation of Emanuel Lutheran in Dayton. For nine years the pastor of Emanuel served our congregation even though there were the problems of distance and no roads leading to the church. Out of humble beginnings, our Grant Center Lutheran Church was organized in February 1886 with 22 charter members. In 1887 we purchased land to build our new church to be located a mile east of the Grant Center schoolhouse. The church was built at a cost of $1,800. Because the town of Boxholm was booming during the 1900- 1910 period, the congregation realized that the church should be moved to town. The building was divided into two sections, each section hitched to horses that pulled it to its current location. In 1924 the language of the church was changed from Swedish to English. In 1966 an educational unit was added and in 1971 the main entrances were enclosed and the sanctuary was remodeled. Our heritage continues. The 205 members of Trinity continue to seek to be faithful people of God in the midst of a world that continues to change. We are thankful for the heritage left to us by those who gathered so long ago to form this congregation. May we, in our turn, leave a legacy grounded in God's word to those who will come after us.
